Tebrau Shuttle Route May Transform into Motorcycle or Pedestrian Lane

Johor bahru: The 1.1-kilometre Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) Tebrau Shuttle route could potentially be repurposed as a motorcycle or pedestrian lane if the shuttle service is terminated with the commencement of the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link next year. Johor Works, Transport, Infrastructure and Communications Committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh indicated that the state government is open to public proposals concerning the future use of this route.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohamad Fazli emphasized that the state government is considering public suggestions, which include incorporating tourism elements to preserve the historical significance of the infrastructure. Although the proposals are still under review, they have not yet been forwarded to the Federal government or the Ministry of Transport.

The decision to discontinue the Tebrau Shuttle service will ultimately rest with the Federal government under the Transport Ministry, given that the service involves cross-border operations. Mohamad Fazli mentioned that any cessation of the service will be contingent upon the ministry's decision, but the state is exploring several proposals should the service be discontinued.

The existing preliminary agreement suggests that the Tebrau Shuttle service will cease once the RTS Link becomes operational. The Tebrau Shuttle, in service since July 1, 2015, connects JB Central and the Woodlands Train Checkpoint, offering a five-minute journey across the Malaysia-Singapore border. The service accommodates up to 8,635 passengers daily with 31 trips in both directions, priced at RM5 one-way from JB Sentral to Woodlands and SGD5 for the reverse direction.
