Kuala Lampur:Negeri Sembilan: Court proceedings concerning the dispute over the Negeri Sembilan royal institution should be expedited to achieve a definitive legal resolution, former law minister Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar has stated.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Syed Hamid emphasized that the dispute, which involves customary practices, state law, and the Federal Constitution, must be addressed through the legal process rather than public debate or sentiment. He pointed out that when both parties claim rights, it is essential for the courts to expedite hearings to settle these legal questions.

Syed Hamid, who has also served as home and foreign minister, asserted that those with jurisdiction, including the Attorney-General and the government, should perform their duties without being perceived as interfering unless determined otherwise by the court.

He further urged all parties to avoid making conflicting public statements, which could exacerbate public anxiety and hinder a reasonable and rational resolution. Syed Hamid noted that the situation has grown from an internal matter to a public dispute, affecting both Malaysian politics and public perception.

Syed Hamid concluded by stating that any actions concerning a person's position or removal from office must align with the procedures and provisions outlined in the Constitution and relevant laws.
