Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque Attracts Over 100,000 Tourists In 2025

Shah alam: The Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque here has recorded the attendance of more than 100,000 tourists throughout 2025, further cementing its position as one of the country's iconic Islamic tourism destinations.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the mosque's Grand Imam, Datuk Muhammad Farhan Wijaya, said the figure included visitors from Europe, West Asia, and East Asia, particularly from Japan and China, who visited Selangor or the Klang Valley.

He stated that this achievement reflects a significant increase in tourist interest in mosque tourism, in line with ongoing efforts to enhance the role of mosques not only as places of worship but also as destinations for knowledge, culture, and Islamic architecture.

Muhammad Farhan emphasized that the increase in visitors demonstrates the mosque's dual role as a place of worship and as a space to showcase the beauty of Islam to all. He noted a high interest among non-Muslim tourists in understanding the architecture, history, and universal values of Islam.

Besides architectural features, he highlighted that mosque tourism programmes organized by Masjid Negeri Selangor Guide (MNSG) have contributed to the increased visitor numbers. The mosque has collaborated with tourism agencies, educational institutions, industry players, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to ensure visits are informative, ethical, and respectful of worship practices.

Throughout 2025, various initiatives were introduced, including guided tours, Mosque Open Day events, mosque tourism briefings, and informal Islamic educational programmes that were visitor-friendly. This achievement aligns with Selangor's aspiration to strengthen Islamic culture and heritage tourism, with the mosque playing a strategic role as an 'entry point' to a more inclusive Islamic tourism narrative, thereby contributing to the local economy.

Muhammad Farhan added that next year, they aim to further develop mosque tourism programmes in a more structured and sustainable manner. Located in Shah Alam city centre, the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque is renowned for having the largest blue dome in Southeast Asia and four minarets standing 142.3 metres tall, offering a unique tourism experience through modern Islamic architecture combining Malay and Middle Eastern elements. Other attractions include the mosque's interior beauty, such as calligraphy, wood carvings, and the spacious prayer layout.
