Special Team Re-examines Corruption Allegations Against Senior Officer

Kuala Lumpur:The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has initiated a special team to revisit and scrutinize corruption allegations involving one of its senior officers, concerning a sum of RM350,000.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman stated that the decision to form the special team was made in response to recent calls and the re-emergence of the issue online. This move aims to maintain the integrity of the MACC and uphold public trust in the anti-corruption body.

The MACC clarified that the allegations were previously investigated in 2018, and the case was closed after no wrongdoing was found. However, they emphasized their commitment to addressing any matter that could impact the commission's credibility. The MACC urged the public to refrain from speculation or spreading unverified information about the issue.

Malaysian Corruption Watch (MCW) had earlier called for immediate action from the MACC and the Anti-Corruption Advisory Board (ACAB) concerning the allegations of a bribe of approximately RM350,000 involving a senior MACC officer. MCW President Jais Abdul Karim noted that the allegations, related to an incident on November 13, 2017, have gained attention on social media, though no official update on its investigation status has been released.
