Federal Government Increases Budget Allocation for Sarawak to RM16.2 Billion

Sarawak:Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has expressed his appreciation to the MADANI Government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, for the increased federal allocation for Sarawak, now set at RM16.2 billion in the 2027 Budget.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Abang Johari conveyed his gratitude to the federal government for the enhanced annual allocation during a speech at the parade and grand assembly marking the 80th birthday celebration of the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sarawak, Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, at Padang Merdeka.

The 2027 Budget, announced by Anwar, allocates RM18.7 billion for Sabah and RM16.2 billion for Sarawak. This is an increase from the 2026 Budget, where Sabah received RM17.6 billion and Sarawak was allocated RM15.1 billion.

Additionally, Abang Johari highlighted Tun Dr Wan Junaidi's significant contributions through his extensive experience in security, politics, and administration, including his tenure in the Federal Cabinet. This experience has provided him with a deep understanding of governance dynamics and the challenges in ensuring both state and national progress and stability.

The parade included 107 contingents from government agencies, statutory bodies, private sector entities, educational institutions, and non-governmental organizations, with approximately 5,000 participants.

The official birthday celebrations for the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sarawak are ongoing from October 8, featuring a range of events such as a thanksgiving ceremony, an interfaith thanksgiving ceremony, the Sarawak State Awards Investiture Ceremony, a state banquet, and a tea reception.
