South Korean Firm Eyes Malaysia for Used Cooking Oil Plant for Aviation Fuel

Kuala lumpur: Korean renewable energy company, JC Chemical Co Ltd, has shown interest in setting up a plant in Malaysia to process refined used cooking oil into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, revealed that the initiative aligns with the National Energy Transition Roadmap and the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030). He noted that the project aims to establish Malaysia as a regional hub for SAF feedstock production, enhancing the country’s biofuel value chain.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Malaysia is on track to begin domestic SAF production by the end of 2025, with Ecoceres Renewable Fuels Sdn Bhd’s commercial operations slated to start in Tanjung Langsat, Johor. The government has simplified the licensing process under the Malaysian Biofuel Industry Act 2007 to encourage the establishment of SAF production facilities, alongside supporting infrastructure such as storage, blending, transportation, and distribution.
