Seven Arrested in RM1.7 Million Jewellery Heist in Genting Highlands

Genting Highlands:Police have apprehended seven individuals, including several foreigners, in connection with a jewellery heist involving 2.5 kilograms of jewellery valued at over RM1.7 million, which occurred at a shopping mall in Genting Highlands, Bentong, in August.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Pahang acting police chief Datuk Azry Akmar Ayob stated that the suspects, aged between 25 and 64, were arrested in the Klang Valley and Penang between August 20 and October 3. The most recent arrest took place at Kuala Lumpur International Airport shortly after the suspect arrived in the country.

The suspect remains under remand, while the other six have been released on police bail. Those arrested are believed to have connections to the main suspect. Police are investigating the case under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code.

The theft involved 81 pieces of jewellery, stolen by three men armed with axes and crowbars, from a goldsmith shop in a mall in Genting Highlands on August 17.
