Kuala Lampur:The Kedah Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested three individuals, including a senior officer from a government agency, on suspicion of bribery totaling approximately RM155,000.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the arrests also include a civil servant and a company owner, who are suspected of accepting bribes in return for approving a quotation for supplying sports attire.
The suspects, comprising two men and a woman aged in their 40s and 50s, were detained between 5 pm and 9 pm yesterday while giving statements at the Kedah MACC office.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects allegedly conspired to commit the acts between 2024 and 2025. It is believed that the civil servant suspects received the bribes both in cash and through money transfers to their personal bank accounts.
Kedah MACC director Datuk Nazli Rasyid Sulong confirmed the arrests and stated that the case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(B) of the MACC Act 2009.
A five-day remand order against the suspects, valid until October 10, was issued following an application by the MACC at the Magistrate's Court.
