Selangor Sultan Celebrates Silver Jubilee With Orphans’ Joyride Flight

Subang:A special joyride flight was organized for 149 orphans by the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, and Tengku Permaisuri Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, in celebration of the Sultan's 25th anniversary on the throne.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the royal couple, along with Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah, were warmly welcomed by Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari at Subang SkyPark. The Kembara Semenanjung Joyride Flight marked the commencement of the month-long Selangor Sultan Silver Jubilee celebrations.

The children, from 29 orphanages, boarded a Batik Air Boeing 737 MAX 8 for an hour-long flight, traversing Penang airspace towards Langkawi, before returning to Subang SkyPark. The initiative, organized by Tourism Selangor with coordination from Selangor Youth Community (SAY) and Yayasan Islam Darul Ehsan (YIDE), aimed to provide the children with a unique travel and flying experience.

The programme was designed to offer exposure to new experiences, social interactions, and outdoor activities, which are hoped to enhance the children's confidence and motivation. It also sought to promote compassion, unity, and awareness about the welfare of orphans, while fostering connections among participants and the community.

The children had the chance to learn about patriotism and the Selangor royal institution. The presence of Their Royal Highnesses and the Raja Muda Selangor underscored the royal family's commitment to the welfare of orphans, ensuring their inclusion in this significant event.

For 13-year-old Amirul Mukminin Tahir, the flight was his first, and although he felt a little dizzy, he enjoyed the experience and made new friends. Another participant, 14-year-old Adam Adliemie Haziq Abdullah, expressed excitement at meeting the Sultan, having only seen him in books and pictures before.
