Selangor Proposes PMS To Coordinate Cross-PBT Development

Selangor: The Selangor state government is streamlining its metropolitan governance model through the proposed establishment of the Selangor Metropolitan Corporation (PMS) to coordinate development planning across multiple local authority (PBT) jurisdictions.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, State Local Government and Tourism Committee chairman Datuk Ng Suee Lim said the proposal was part of the Selangor Greater Klang Valley (SGKV) initiative, with the PMS serving as the coordinating body for the planning, development, and implementation of projects involving more than one PBT. He emphasized that the PMS would act as a state-level coordinating mechanism to support the implementation of the model without altering the jurisdiction or functions of PBTs under the Local Government Act 1976. Instead, it aims to enhance coordination between the state government, PBTs, and relevant agencies to address development issues that span PBT administrative boundaries.

Ng Suee Lim made these remarks in response to a question from Danial Al-Rashid Haron Aminar Rashid (PH-Batu Tiga) regarding the progress of SGKV development at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly. He also mentioned that the proposal to establish PMS had been submitted to the Housing and Local Government Ministry, and discussions are ongoing with relevant federal government agencies, particularly concerning legal, governance, and implementation aspects.

Ng added that once the process is completed, the PMS Establishment Enactment Bill will be finalized before being tabled in the Selangor State Assembly following the legal procedures in force. Additionally, the SGKV 2035 Blueprint, which is nearing finalization, will serve as a strategic document to set the direction for development and guide the implementation of the Selangor metropolitan governance model.
