Raub: The Safe Internet Campaign (KIS) is expected to be implemented in 10,000 schools nationwide by the middle of the third quarter next year. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil shared that the ministry has successfully conducted the campaign in 6,000 schools as of mid-October this year.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi Fadzil mentioned that in Pahang alone, the campaign has covered almost 400 schools, although this number still falls short of the target. He expressed his hope that by next year, the campaign would reach all schools across the country. His remarks came during the state-level Safe Internet Campaign launch at Sekolah Kebangsaan Raub Indah. The event was also attended by key officials including State Communications and Multimedia, Youth, Sports and Non-Governmental Organisations Committee chairman Fadzli Mohamad Kamal and Communications Ministry deputy secretary-general Mano Verabathran.
To further the campaign’s objectives, Fahmi announced the appointment of Cadet Captain Icons who will assist in disseminating information about safe internet practices during weekly school assemblies. This initiative will also cover updates on recent online scams and government policy changes, such as the recent decision to limit social media use for individuals under the age of 16.
Additionally, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is set to implement the Point of Presence (PoP) project to enhance broadband connectivity in 170 schools in Pahang, with work scheduled to commence in January. This follows the completion of 17 schools under the project’s first phase. MCMC is also working on WiFi installation programmes at selected schools to improve internet access for both teachers and students.
Fahmi further noted discussions with the Education Minister regarding the installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in schools, prioritizing boarding schools in Pahang, with the possibility of immediate implementation.
