Kuala lumpur: The Economy Ministry is examining the structure of the country's preparedness as Malaysia moves towards becoming an ageing nation, through Budget 2027. Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said this is important to ensure the sustainability and continuity of the country's economic growth, as well as to empower the next generation.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Akmal Nasrullah emphasized the necessity for the younger generation to shoulder greater responsibility for the sustainability of the economy and the continuity of the country's growth as Malaysia transitions to an ageing nation. The examination by the Economy Ministry focuses not only on managing an elderly population but also on preparing the younger generation for their future well-being. This was highlighted during the Junior Innovathon: Di Sini Inovasi Bermula event.

In the context of youth development, Akmal Nasrullah mentioned the ministry's aim to broaden young people's exposure to specialised programmes and economic structures that are currently unclear to them. The intention is to create opportunities for young individuals to explore segments previously inaccessible, especially in the stock market and ownership sectors, allowing them to venture into new areas.

He further stated the importance of strengthening education in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through talent development from the grassroots level. The ministry prioritizes equipping young talents with necessary skills for involvement in high-growth, high-value industries. Additionally, there is a focus on enhancing funding for research and invention, aiming for both academic and commercial purposes.

The Junior Innovathon Season Two 2026, a television programme produced by Radio Televisyen Malaysia, is set to begin airing on September 20. It will feature the top 50 teams selected from 2,092 entries, concluding with the selection of a champion on November 1, 2026.
