Klang: Chinese clean energy conglomerate Mingyang Smart Energy Group Co. Ltd is setting its sights on amplifying its presence in Malaysia, focusing on offshore wind, solar, battery energy storage, and hydrogen sectors. This initiative aligns with Malaysia's National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) objectives.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mingyang's assistant president and general manager of International Marketing Business Centre, Mark Lou, emphasized that the company is keen to leverage Malaysia's clear policy direction under the NETR to boost cooperation in decarbonization and energy security. Mingyang, which operates an electrical equipment manufacturing facility in Malaysia, is optimistic about the country's green energy potential and is eager to contribute its technological expertise to support Malaysia's energy transition goals.
Lou expressed the company's enthusiasm about Malaysia's governmental policies that focus on establishing energy security and decarbonization. He highlighted Mingyang's capabilities and vision to develop energy products in Malaysia. During a visit to the company's facility, Lou mentioned that their existing factory in Klang is already producing electrical products, primarily for energy storage projects.
While acknowledging Malaysia's limited onshore wind potential, Lou pointed out the promising prospects for offshore wind development. He also noted a previous exchange of ideas on clean energy development between Mingyang chairman Zhang Chuanwei and Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at China's Greater Bay Area (GBA)-ASEAN Conference on Energy Transition and Integration.
Mingyang aims to engage further with the Malaysian government and energy authorities to contribute to the country's energy security, carbon reduction, and net-zero targets. The company also sees opportunities to expand its collaboration with Malaysia into wind, solar, and battery energy storage systems (BESS), partnering with both government stakeholders and energy developers.
Amy Deng, Mingyang's director of International Marketing Management, highlighted Sarawak's potential for integrated renewable energy development due to its robust hydropower base and the state's green energy ambitions. She emphasized Mingyang's ability to offer a full spectrum of solutions, from renewable power generation to hydrogen production.
Deng noted that Sarawak's maritime resources could facilitate the development of wind farms integrated with hydrogen production, possibly leading to the creation of products like methanol or ammonia. She also mentioned Mingyang's technological innovation in offshore wind, including typhoon-resistant turbines and floating offshore wind technology, as a competitive strength.
Beyond Malaysia, Mingyang is expanding its new-energy business across various regions, including Asia-Pacific, Europe, the Americas, West Asia, and Africa. The company's focus remains on wind, solar, energy storage, and hydrogen sectors.
The site visit coincided with the Asia-Pacific Media Forum (APMF), organized by Xinhua News Agency and partners. The forum, themed "Building a Path to Shared Prosperity for the Asia-Pacific Community: Media Consensus and Action," is part of the events leading to the 2026 APEC 'China Year' and the 33rd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Shenzhen.
