Sabah’s Initiative to Enhance Internet Facilities in Rural Schools

Kota kinabalu: The State Education, Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry (KPSTI) has announced plans to enhance internet facilities in schools across Sabah, with a special focus on rural and remote areas, starting next year. Datuk James Ratib, the minister in charge, emphasized the importance of ensuring that no students are left behind in the evolving digital education landscape.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ratib highlighted that the ministry's efforts will prioritize rural and interior regions that currently lack adequate internet facilities. This initiative aims to eliminate the digital divide and improve access to online educational resources for all students. "We do not want any more pupils or students to face difficulties in accessing the internet. These efforts will be continued and expanded from time to time," Ratib stated following the Paitan District Christmas and New Year Celebration.

This year, approximately 300 schools in Sabah have already been equipped with Starlink satellite devices to improve internet access and support the teaching and learning processes. Ratib, who also serves as the Sugut assemblyman, pointed out the significance of extending Starlink facilities beyond schools to local communities through the e-Desa initiative, particularly in villages lacking internet coverage.

Additionally, Ratib expressed a commitment to developing the Sugut area, listed among the ten poorest regions in the country, with an aim to alleviate poverty within the next five years. He urged all relevant parties to collaborate in ensuring the progress of the Paitan district and the Sugut area in alignment with current development trends for the benefit of the local community.

Addressing the festive event, Ratib noted that celebrations involving various races and religions in Sabah play a crucial role in fostering harmony, unity, and mutual respect among the people.
