Kota kinabalu: The Sabah State Government has allocated a total of RM559.85 million to the state's Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry (MAFFI) this year to improve food security and the self-sufficiency rate (SSR). Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor highlighted these efforts during the launch of the Sabah State-Level Kaamatan Festival.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, various initiatives are being implemented by the government to ensure food security in the state. This includes the development of padi fields in various districts such as Papar, Membakut, Beaufort, and Kuala Penyu. Hajiji emphasized the importance of the agriculture sector as one of the three main pillars driving the state's economic growth, especially in the context of the Kaamatan Festival which celebrates the harvest.
He further stated that the commitment to food security reflects the State Government's determination to address challenges posed by the uncertain global economic and geopolitical situation. Hajiji called for unity and cooperation among the people of Sabah to support the government's efforts in making the Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya 2.0 initiative a success.
The state government plans to continue implementing various initiatives to improve living standards and the socio-economic status of the people. This includes providing assistance in education, human capital development, and overall well-being to ensure inclusive and balanced development across the state.
Hajiji explained that Papar was chosen as the host for the festival launch due to its significance as a fertile padi growing center. He described Papar as rich in cultural values and a harmonious multi-racial community, embodying the spirit of Sabah. The district is undergoing significant infrastructure and commercial development, with projects in areas like Benoni and Kinarut.
The Chief Minister also mentioned Papar's potential as a major stopover location for visitors from Brunei and Sarawak once the Pan Borneo Highway project is fully completed. To support local development, he announced an allocation of RM1 million for the construction of a covered futsal court with a grandstand in the district.
