Tanjung laboh: The RM18.3 million Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) Airport project in Tanjung Laboh is anticipated to be fully completed by April 2026 and is set to become a new landmark for Johor. State Public Works, Transport, Infrastructure and Communications Committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh announced that the airport, currently 71 percent complete, will feature an 800-metre runway and a 12-metre-high air traffic control tower.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the airport is being developed on a 22.6-hectare site and is expected to enhance the region's appeal. Mohamad Fazli highlighted Tanjung Laboh's potential to become the 'Southern Maldives' of Malaysia. He also noted that UTHM will be the first university in Southeast Asia to possess its own maritime airport.
The airport will serve multiple purposes, including functioning as a pilot training centre. It also has the potential to offer charter flight services, seaplane operations, and serve as a hub for aircraft and helicopter maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO).
