Subang Jaya: Residents of Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, are showing resilience and a determination to rebuild their lives following a gas pipeline explosion and fire on April 1, which caused significant damage to homes and belongings.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, housewife Salbiyah Ariffin, 63, and her husband are focused on repairing their home, which they hold dear. Despite the roof and front garden being affected, they are committed to restoration efforts. Volunteers have been assisting in clearing the area under Ops Mega, a two-day operation involving cleanup across four zones: A, B, C, and D.
Salbiyah recounted the terrifying experience as she celebrated Hari Raya with her family, having to jump into a river to escape the fire. She sustained a leg injury during the escape and is currently using a wheelchair. Despite the trauma, her grandchildren emerged safe from the incident.
Ahmad Baharudin Hamid, 56, from Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru, is similarly focused on moving forward, despite extensive damage to his home. He estimates that repairs will cost around RM400,000 and has begun inspecting the damage with his son, while other family members remain too traumatised to return.
Ahmad Robani, 29, noted that authorities have been assessing the safety of the damaged homes. His family is currently residing at a temporary relief centre as they await a government assessment.
Earlier, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari initiated a large-scale cleanup operation, deploying over 4,000 personnel, including volunteers and various agencies, to address the aftermath of the explosion.
