Cherok Tok Kun:Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today paid his last respects to his elder brother, Idrus, who passed away yesterday evening.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar arrived at his family home in Cherok Tok Kun at 1105 am, accompanied by his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail. He was welcomed by family members and members of the public who had gathered to mourn the loss of Idrus.
The Prime Minister shook hands with residents and appeared emotional as he recited Surah Yasin beside his brother's remains. The gathering included several notable figures, such as Penang Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Steven Sim, Penang Mufti Associate Professor Datuk Dr Mohd Sukki Othman, and Penang police chief Datuk Dennis Lim Kwang Kheng, along with political leaders from various parties.
Idrus, who was 83, died in his sleep at his residence in Cherok Tok Kun at 610 pm yesterday. He will be laid to rest at the Cherok Tok Kun Bawah Muslim Cemetery following Friday prayers today. Idrus was the second of eight siblings and leaves behind his wife, four children, and 10 grandchildren. A former teacher, he served as headmaster at Sekolah Kebangsaan Permatang Bertam in Kepala Batas and SK Stowell in Bukit Mertajam.
