Kuala Lampur:Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has emphasized the importance of preserving and upholding the institution of the Malay Rulers, a key institution in the country.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar expressed strong disapproval of recent actions taken by Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ismail Lasim and the state executive councillors. He described their actions as a serious offence and unacceptable, questioning their mandate to challenge the position of the Ruler.

Anwar stated his confusion over the decisions made by the Menteri Besar and Exco, which have led to controversy in Negeri Sembilan. He emphasized the importance of discussing and resolving such matters through appropriate channels without undermining the institution of the Rulers.

The controversy escalated following a special meeting of the Negeri Sembilan State Executive Council, which resulted in the suspension of State Secretary Datuk Mohd Zafir Ibrahim and State Legal Adviser Datuk Muzalmah Mustapha Kamal. Anwar stressed that the federal government is committed to upholding the Constitution and ensuring it is respected, particularly regarding the position of the Ruler.

The situation in Negeri Sembilan has led to a constitutional impasse concerning the position of the Yang Dipertuan Besar, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir.
