Prasarana Records Over 1.54 Million Passenger Trips for New Year’s Eve

Kuala lumpur: Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) recorded over 1.54 million passenger journeys on its rail and bus services on December 31, 2025, marking the highest figure in the history of Rapid KL and Rapid Penang. Prasarana president and group chief executive officer Amir Hamdan stated that this figure represented a 0.76 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Amir Hamdan attributed the achievement to the efficiency of coordination and crowd control management, which was driven by about 3,000 Rapid KL frontline personnel in the Klang Valley. They ensured that rail and bus users experienced smooth, safe, and comfortable journeys throughout the New Year celebrations. The effectiveness of on-ground operational coordination allowed Rapid KL services to operate smoothly even with the surge in passenger numbers at several celebration hotspots.

The statement detailed that rail services recorded 1.29 million passengers on New Year's Eve, while bus services, including Rapid On-Demand (ROD), logged 251,737 passengers. For rail services, the Kelana Jaya Line saw 321,381 passengers, the Ampang/Sri Petaling Line had 246,885, the Monorail recorded 90,748, the Kajang Line had 396,141, and the Putrajaya Line saw 234,158 passengers.

In terms of bus services, including ROD, Rapid KL served 183,944 passengers, Rapid Penang 48,002, and the Sunway Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) 19,791. Amir Hamdan emphasized the success in managing this large-scale operation as evidence of Rapid KL personnel's preparedness and professionalism in ensuring that public transport services are managed effectively, safely, and comfortably, even under challenging operational conditions.

He also highlighted the strategic cooperation with the Royal Malaysia Police in managing traffic flow and enforcing bus lanes, which helped ensure that bus services operated according to schedule despite severe congestion around the city center. Additionally, comprehensive coordination among Prasarana's Auxiliary Police Force, event organizers, and security teams at major shopping malls played an important role in managing passenger flow and maintaining public safety at an optimum level.
