Police Officer and Wife Fatally Injured in Highway Collision Near Pekan

Pekan: A police officer and his wife tragically lost their lives, while their four children sustained injuries, following a devastating collision on Jalan Kuantan-Segamat near Pekan early this morning. The crash occurred at KM76, involving a Proton Wira and a Honda City.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Pekan police chief Supt Mohd Zaidi Mat Zin identified the deceased as Inspector Syah Lokman Ludza Ramli, 50, an officer with the Kuantan District Police Headquarters, and his wife, Nurulfiza Ardiana Ambak, 46. Both were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The incident is reported to have taken place around 3 a.m. when the Proton Wira, driven by Inspector Syah Lokman, collided with a Honda City. Initial investigations suggest the Honda City, driven by a 26-year-old man, was en route from Gelang Patah to Terengganu, while the Proton Wira was traveling from Kuantan towards Jempol. It is believed that the driver of the Proton Wira lost control, resulting in the vehicle veering into the opposite lane and colliding with the Honda City.

The driver of the Honda City sustained minor injuries, and his 26-year-old pregnant wife is currently receiving treatment at the Emergency Zone of Muadzam Shah Hospital. Meanwhile, the four children of the deceased couple, aged between 10 and 18, were also injured and are undergoing treatment at the same hospital. One child reportedly suffered a fractured left leg.

The bodies of Inspector Syah Lokman and Nurulfiza Ardiana have been transported to Pekan Hospital for post-mortem examinations. The case is under investigation pursuant to Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
