Kuala lumpur: The ritual of stoning the jamrah is not merely about fulfilling one of the obligatory rites of haj, but also serves as a lesson in humility and putting others first as millions gather in one place. Federal Territories Mufti Ahmad Fauwaz Fadzil emphasized the profound wisdom behind this ritual, highlighting its role in nurturing patience, tolerance, and respect for others while performing acts of worship.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mufti Ahmad Fauwaz explained that the essence of stoning the jamrah lies in obedience to Allah SWT's command, serving as a symbol of submission and devotion to the Almighty rather than a physical confrontation with the devil. He remarked, 'When we are at the jamrah area, we cannot push or think only about ourselves. We need to give way to others and perform the ritual calmly. That is where the ego is tested. We learn that even in crowded situations, the common good must come before personal desire.'
He further noted that the smooth movement of millions of Muslims performing the stoning ritual each year demonstrates how cooperation and tolerance can prevail even in challenging situations. Ahmad Fauwaz stressed the importance of the spirit of helping one another and being considerate during the ritual, reflecting the strength of the ummah built on compassion and unity.
'If we are able to cooperate even in something as seemingly simple as throwing small stones, then surely we can work together in pursuing greater agendas for the benefit of Muslims,' he stated. He also added that the spirit of setting aside one's ego and prioritizing others should not end in the Holy Land, but should be carried home and practiced in daily life after the haj season.
