Perlis: Police have arrested a man suspected of uploading a social media post containing insulting remarks against the Perlis Royal Institution.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Perlis Police chief Datuk Muhammad Abdul Halim stated that the 37-year-old man was apprehended yesterday afternoon after six police reports were lodged concerning the incident. The case is under investigation for potential violations of Section 504 of the Penal Code, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.

"Police view this matter seriously as it involves the sensitivities of the Perlis Royal Institution and could give rise to misunderstandings and disrupt social harmony. We therefore advise the public not to make any comments, speculate or disseminate unverified information that could disrupt public order," said Muhammad in a statement.

Muhammad emphasized that stern action would be taken against any party that acts beyond the limits of the law, breaches any existing legal provisions, or attempts to provoke unrest or undermine national security.

The arrest follows a police report filed by Perlis PAS Dewan Ulama chief Ahmad Adnan Fadzil against the Facebook account owner 'Mohd Syafeeq', who allegedly posted defamatory content insulting the Perlis Royal Institution. The post reportedly referred to the Pingat Jasa Kebaktian (PJK) recently conferred on Ahmad Adnan.
