PM Anwar Seeks S’wak Cooperation in Curbing Diesel Smuggling

Kuching: The federal government is seeking Sarawak's cooperation to curb diesel smuggling at state borders. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has requested Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to collaborate with enforcement agencies, including the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar highlighted the issue during the 2026 state-level MADANI breaking-of-fast event at Masjid Jamek Negeri Sarawak. He noted that the lower diesel prices in Sabah and Sarawak make smuggling more likely, hence the need for strengthened cooperation to tackle the issue effectively.

Furthermore, Anwar assured that despite the rising oil prices, influenced by the ongoing conflict in West Asia, the MADANI Government will maintain the RON95 subsidy under the BUDI95 program. He emphasized the importance of resolving the conflict to alleviate the financial burden on the nation, while also committing to maintaining financial savings measures alongside the subsidy.

During the event, Anwar also announced that the federal government has approved RM150 million for remedial work on the Sungai Sarawak Barrage, signaling a continued commitment to infrastructure development in the region.
