Nagoya:Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has congratulated the national men's sepak takraw team for their victory in securing the team regu gold medal at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the win marks the end of a 36-year wait for Malaysia to reclaim the gold medal in this event, which also represents the country's fourth gold at the current Asiad. Prime Minister Anwar described the achievement as a highly meaningful victory and a source of pride for all Malaysians, expressing his congratulations in a Facebook post with the words, "Syabas (Well done) Malaysia. Continue to bring glory to Malaysia."

In the final match held at the Paloma Mizuho Arena, the national sepak takraw squad triumphed over Thailand with a score of 2-0. Malaysia had last won the gold in this event in 1990, also against Thailand, during the Beijing edition of the Asian Games.
