High Court Schedules Najib’s Stay Bid in 1MDB Case for October 14

Kuala Lumpur:The High Court has scheduled October 14 to hear Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's request to delay his 15-year jail sentence and RM11.4 billion fine following his conviction in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) case.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Judge Noor Ruwena Md Nurdin set the date during a case management session attended by Najib's lawyer, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, and deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Mustaffa P Kunyalam. The judge advised the defense to submit written arguments before the hearing date.

Najib, who was present at the proceedings, was sentenced by the High Court on December 26 last year. The court handed him a 15-year imprisonment and a fine of RM11.4 billion for abuse of power, with additional terms for money laundering. On December 29, Najib appealed to the Court of Appeal but did not seek an immediate stay of the verdict.

The former prime minister faces a total effective imprisonment of 15 years, with concurrent sentences for his charges. This follows the completion of his current six-year term related to the SRC International case, ending on August 23, 2028.

Last Friday, Najib received a conditional pardon from Malaysia's King, Sultan Ibrahim, allowing him to serve his remaining sentence under house arrest until August 23, 2028, upon paying a RM50 million fine.

In related events, Najib's daughter, Nooryana Najwa, was seen at the court complex with her children, but she did not provide details regarding the timing of the fine payment.
