Petaling Contingent Secures 15th Consecutive SUKSES Championship Title

Klang: The Petaling District has once again claimed the title of champion at the 15th Selangor Sports Championship (SUKSES), marking its 15th consecutive victory since the competition began in 1995. The Petaling contingent’s triumph came with an impressive haul of 91 medals, including 42 gold, 28 silver, and 21 bronze.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Klang District finished as the runner-up, securing 21 gold, 26 silver, and 21 bronze medals. Sepang District claimed third place with 14 gold, 16 silver, and 16 bronze medals. The victory trophy was awarded by Selangor Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Exco, Mohd Najwan Halimi, during the SUKSES closing ceremony held at Hamzah Hall, Royal Klang City Council (MBDK).

The championship, spanning from September 17 to the closing day, also recognized outstanding individual performances. Muhamad Daniel Haqiem Azman from the Kuala Selangor district was named the male athlete of the tournament, while Sasha Alyssa Philip from Petaling was honored as the female athlete. Both athletes excelled in athletics, with Muhamad Daniel claiming two golds and Sasha Alyssa securing three golds. Each received a monetary award of RM1,000.

This year’s SUKSES featured competition in 11 sports, including lawn bowl, taekwondo, sepak takraw, netball, rugby, pencak silat, athletics, basketball, volleyball, archery, and table tennis. A total of 401 medals were contested across 121 events, primarily held in the Klang district, with exceptions for five sports hosted in Shah Alam.

The tournament brought together over 2,300 athletes under the age of 20, who gathered in Klang for the duration of the competition. The SUKSES format aligns with the Malaysia Games (SUKMA), providing a platform for preparation and early exposure for Selangor’s emerging athletes.
