Penampang Floods Displace Over 100 Residents

Penampang:Heavy overnight rain led to the evacuation of 118 flood victims from 41 families to four temporary relief centres in Penampang this morning.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the flooding was officially declared a disaster by Penampang District Disaster Management Committee chairman Noemi Dyena John Tren at 10.40 pm on October 1, following reports from ground agencies.

The Sabah State Disaster Management Committee reported that the Penampang Sports Complex is housing the most evacuees, with 40 people from seven families. The Huguan Siou Hall is sheltering 31 victims from 11 families, while the Penampang Parish Hall has accommodated 29 victims from 16 families. Additionally, St Paul Kolopis is providing shelter for 18 victims from seven families.

The water level of Sungai Moyog has reached a critical 9.12 metres, surpassing the danger level. The flooding has impacted 15 villages, including Kampung Penampang Proper, Kampung Kolopis, and Kampung Sarapung, among others.

Twelve roads are currently inundated, though passable. These include Jalan Tanaki-Bandason, Jalan Vista Kiranau, and Jalan Inobong. Local authorities and security agencies are actively monitoring the situation to ensure the safety of residents.
