Istanbul:The construction of the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency's (MMEA) Multi-Purpose Mission Ship 1 (MPMS 1) is progressing ahead of schedule, with the vessel expected to begin its journey to Malaysia in late January.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail announced that MPMS 1 would be the largest vessel in the MMEA fleet once completed and handed over. This new strategic asset is anticipated to enhance MMEA's capabilities in maritime operations, including enforcement, surveillance, and search and rescue missions.
Saifuddin Nasution, currently in Istanbul, attended the launch of the vessel at Desan Shipyard. He expressed that the construction of MPMS 1 is advancing well and ahead of schedule, marking a significant milestone for MMEA.
The launch event at Desan Shipyard was attended by notable figures, including T¼rkiye's Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci, Industry and Technology Minister Mehmet Fatih Kacir, Turkish Navy Commander Admiral Ercument Tatlioglu, and Desan Shipyard representative Cenk Ismail Kaptanoglu. Malaysian officials present included Home Ministry Deputy Secretary-General Ainah Mohd Soon, MMEA Deputy Director-General Vice Admiral Datuk Saiful Lizan Ibrahim, Ambassador to T¼rkiye Adlan Mohd Shaffieq, and Consul-General in Istanbul Ahmad Amiri Abu Bakar.
The Home Ministry (KDN) highlighted the ceremony's symbolic bottle-breaking event, using seawater from Malaysia, which underscored the cooperation between Malaysia and T¼rkiye. Saifuddin Nasution also held a bilateral meeting with Mustafa Ciftci to discuss technology-sharing opportunities in security and maritime industries.
The collaboration between Malaysia and T¼rkiye on MPMS 1 illustrates the strengthening ties between the two nations, aiming to enhance shipbuilding, maritime industry development, and technology sharing. KDN emphasized that this partnership reflects a commitment to expanding strategic ties, which could lead to new cooperative ventures in the future.
