Parliamentary Session to Address Investment Strategy, Safety Abroad, and Food Security

Kuala Lumpur:The government's approach to diversifying Tabung Haji's (TH) investment portfolio and enhancing its risk management framework will be key topics on the first day of the third meeting of the fifth session of the 15th Parliament.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Che Mohamad Zulkifly Jusoh (PN-Besut) plans to question the Prime Minister during the Oral Question-and-Answer session regarding measures to ensure the sustainability of TH funds. He is concerned about how these measures will help Malaysians afford the haj.

The safety of Malaysians overseas is another issue on the agenda, with Datuk Seri Sh Mohmed Puzi Sh Ali (BN-Pekan) set to query the Foreign Minister about bolstering the registration system for Malaysians abroad. He will inquire whether registration should be compulsory in high-risk destinations to ensure prompt assistance during emergencies.

Food security and the reliance on imports will also be discussed. Khoo Poay Tiong (PH-Kota Melaka) intends to ask the Agriculture and Food Security Minister about efforts to reduce food imports, which surpassed RM90 billion in 2025, and action against imported product dumping.

In other matters, Oscar Ling Chai Yew (PH-Sibu) will question the Higher Education Minister on the progress of repealing the Universities and University Colleges Act 1971 (AUKU), including the implementation timeline and transition plans for new legislation.

Negotiations between the Federal and Sarawak governments regarding the state's rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), particularly over oil and gas regulatory powers, will be addressed by Datuk Willie anak Mongin (GPS-Puncak Borneo).

Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa (PH-Sekijang) will inquire about the timeline for presenting the National Ageing Action Plan and setting indicators to gauge the Silver Economy's contribution to GDP. Additionally, Datuk Dr Ku Abd Rahman Ku Ismail (PN-Kubang Pasu) will seek the Digital Minister's stance on global calls to slow AI development and the drafting of a Malaysian AI Act.

The session will also include the first readings of the Sports Development (Amendment) Bill 2026 and the Food (Amendment) Bill 2026, along with briefings on reports from Parliamentary Select Committees and the Public Accounts Committee on issues like refugee management and the e-Jamin court bail payment system.

The parliamentary meeting is scheduled to last 37 days, concluding on December 8.
