Raub:The Pahang Department of Environment (DOE) is actively investigating pollution reports in Sungai Gali and Sungai Lampan near Raub.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Pahang DOE director Zakaria Ahmad stated that investigations commenced yesterday, and he is currently awaiting a comprehensive report from the Temerloh branch's investigating officer. The department has gathered water samples from the rivers, as well as samples of effluent suspected to have been released by a nearby factory.
Zakaria emphasized the necessity of obtaining analysis results from the Chemistry Department before determining any further actions. The situation was brought to the forefront when State Communications and Multimedia, Youth, Sports and Non-Governmental Organisations Committee chairman Datuk Fadzli Mohamad Kamal called for immediate DOE intervention to ascertain the pollution's source. During his visit to the impacted areas, Fadzli, who also serves as the Dong assemblyman in Raub, observed numerous dead fish species along the rivers, which had turned black and emitted a strong odor.
