Kuala Lampur:More than 268,000 taxpayers have submitted 1.99 billion e-invoices as of October 1, according to the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, LHDN's Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Dr. Abu Tariq Jamaluddin, stated that 196,031 taxpayers contributed to submissions under phase four of the e-invoicing rollout. The e-invoicing implementation is occurring in stages, with the government recently raising the exemption threshold from RM1 million to RM3 million, benefiting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Businesses with an annual turnover below RM3 million are now exempt from the e-invoicing requirement.
The revised threshold, which took effect on September 1, 2026, exempts MSMEs with annual income or sales of less than RM3 million from needing to implement e-invoicing. Abu Tariq reported that 5,582 taxpayers submitted e-invoices under phase one, followed by 14,579 in phase two, and 51,815 in phase three. The e-invoicing system was initially introduced on August 1, 2024.
As of August 31, 2026, LHDN had over 620,000 active corporate tax files and more than 7.6 million active individual tax files. In his speech, Abu Tariq highlighted that the initiative Bulan HASiL, under the theme 'Voluntary Disclosure, Shared Responsibility,' offers taxpayers a chance to return to voluntary tax compliance.
LHDN has launched several initiatives, including the Special Voluntary Disclosure programme (PKPS) for e-invoicing and stamp duty, and the Voluntary Income Tax Disclosure campaign. The PKPS e-Invois aims at e-invoicing compliance, while the PKPS Duti Setem allows taxpayers to regularize stamp duty matters with penalty exemptions. The Voluntary Income Tax Disclosure campaign offers an opportunity to amend income declarations.
A key activity during Bulan HASiL is a tax literacy roadshow taking place nationwide throughout October 2026.
