Kampung ampang woh: The news of the discovery of missing trekker Jaslinda Saludin, 49, has brought immense relief to the 15 Orang Asli volunteers from Kampung Ampang Woh, who had been assisting in the search and rescue (SAR) operations around Kem Sukaneka and Gunung Rayu.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the volunteers, some of whom had returned to their villages after leaving the forest area, described finding Jaslinda as the most meaningful outcome for everyone involved. Mohd Hail Nizam Idris, one of the volunteers, expressed how the news alleviated the disappointment of those who had tirelessly searched the dense and hilly terrain for days. He shared, "When we found out she was still alive and had been found, we felt very relieved. Our initial intention was to help ensure she could return safely."
Throughout the operation, the volunteers utilized their extensive knowledge of the forest to aid in the search, despite challenges such as Mohd Hail Nizam Idris sustaining a leg injury while crossing Balak Camp II. Tok Batin Kampung Ampang Woh Bah Lilit emphasized that Jaslinda's disappearance should prompt greater attention to safety when entering the forest, urging climbers to inform local residents to ensure safety and mutual respect.
Chew Ho Beng, special officer to the Perak Menteri Besar for Orang Asli Community Affairs, noted that five of the volunteers returned to Kampung Woh at around 9 pm after receiving news of Jaslinda's discovery. The remaining volunteers were expected to return by 5 pm. Ho Beng highlighted the significant role of communication, stating that a 'walkie talkie' call from the villagers informed the volunteers about the discovery.
Jaslinda, found near Kampung Lubuk Gaharu, Pos Musoh, at around 5 pm, was praised for her mental resilience, having survived challenging conditions over the 14-day SAR operation. The female climber had embarked on the Trans Spencer Chapman climb with 13 others and two forestry mountain guides on May 23, starting from Pos Gedung and following the Gunung Bah Gading-Gunung Batu Putih-Kuala Woh route.
