Kuala lumpur: The National Registration Department (JPN) has confirmed that it is not carrying out any special campaign or operations requiring the public to update their residential addresses on their MyKad. Furthermore, there will be no actions taken against individuals who have yet to update this information.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, JPN emphasized that it is the responsibility of each cardholder to ensure that the information on their MyKad is accurate and current. The department encouraged cardholders to visit JPN to update their residential address if there has been a change to a new and permanent address. The fee for replacing a MyKad is RM10.

JPN also advised the public against spreading false claims about government mandates requiring all citizens to change their MyKad or attempting to profit from the implementation of Regulation 15 of the National Registration Regulations 1990, which has been in effect for a considerable time. Such misinformation could lead to public confusion and unrest.

The department's statement urged the public to verify information through official channels and warned against making interpretations based on incomplete or misleading posts. This clarification follows a viral social media claim that not updating one's address after moving could lead to severe legal repercussions, including fines up to RM20,000, imprisonment for up to three years, or both.

Under Regulation 15 of the National Registration Regulations 1990, individuals are required to update their identification card if they reside at a new address for 90 days or more.
