Kuala lumpur: National unity remains a key priority of the National Security Council (MKN), said its Director-General Datuk Raja Nushirwan Zainal Abidin. He emphasized that national unity is the third of the nine pillars outlined in the National Security Policy and is among the most important elements in ensuring that the country's sovereignty and stability continue to be safeguarded.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Raja Nushirwan highlighted the importance of unity in a plural society like Malaysia, stressing the need for people of different races to understand one another, practise tolerance, embrace diversity, and respect the social contract founded on the Federal Constitution. He was speaking at the National Unity Programme, which aims to promote the spirit of togetherness and strengthen unity among Malaysia's multiracial communities as a foundation for enhancing national security.
The programme aligns with the aspirations of Malaysia MADANI, which emphasizes holistic national development based on the spirit of unity among people of various ethnic backgrounds. Raja Nushirwan noted that unity, national stability, and security must always remain a priority, especially during times of global challenges, including economic uncertainty and international conflicts.
He further explained that the National Security Policy's slogan, 'National Security is a Shared Responsibility', requires active participation from all segments of society, not just security forces and enforcement agencies, to safeguard the nation's security and sovereignty.
In another development, Raja Nushirwan mentioned that the Federal Government and the Kelantan Government are exploring various economic initiatives to support local communities affected by the demolition of illegal jetties along the Kelantan-Thailand border. This issue will be a key agenda item at the upcoming State Security Meeting at the Kelantan State Secretary's Office.
He assured that the government is committed to addressing the needs of affected residents while maintaining border security and the well-being of local communities. Efforts to create alternative economic activities for these communities are being emphasized.
Raja Nushirwan also commented on actions against illegal jetties, stating that the Federal Government, in cooperation with the Kelantan Government, continues to focus on demolishing structures that pose a threat to national security, particularly due to their connection with fuel smuggling activities. As of April 29, 91 out of 213 identified illegal jetties have been demolished.
