Government Expands Global Fuel Sourcing Amid West Asia Conflict

Kuala lumpur: The government is expanding its search for fuel sources from various countries to ensure the nation's energy supply remains stable amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia, said National Security Council (MKN) director-general Datuk Raja Nurshirwan Zainal Abidin. He emphasized that the initiative, driven by Petronas, aims to secure adequate fuel supplies for the country despite disruptions in the global energy supply chain stemming from ongoing geopolitical tensions.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Raja Nurshirwan revealed that the current fuel supplies are sufficient until the end of August. Efforts are underway to source fuel from around the world to ensure continuous adequacy. He expressed optimism that these efforts are yielding positive results, and the country is not expected to face significant disruptions in fuel supply.

He highlighted the public's role in ensuring long-term fuel supply stability by using energy responsibly and avoiding wastage. Additionally, he urged authorities to intensify efforts to combat fuel smuggling in border areas to prevent losses that could affect domestic supply.

Last month, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated that petrol and diesel supplies in the country remain sufficient despite the conflict in West Asia and global economic conditions affecting the global energy supply chain. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to maintaining the subsidized price of RON95 petrol at RM1.99 per litre. Anwar, who also serves as Finance Minister, noted that Malaysia's strong relations with several countries, including Iran, have helped maintain smooth oil supply routes through the Strait of Hormuz.
