Kuala lumpur: The National Day parade is more than an annual celebration, bringing together Malaysians from all walks of life in a shared expression of patriotism and unity.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fourth Division Malaysian Army commander and chief coordinator of the 2026 National Day Parade and Marching Committee Major General Mohd Shauari Mat Piah said the participation of various organisations reflected the spirit of togetherness in appreciating the meaning of independence and honouring the sacrifices of previous generations.
'When we come together with a common purpose, regardless of race, ethnicity or background, we can stay united while appreciating what the government has done for us,' he told Bernama in an exclusive interview in conjunction with the 2026 National Day celebration.
Mohd Shauari said the participation of various agencies, including the security forces, in the parade also demonstrated their unity and commitment to defending the nation.
He said military discipline and tradition were key elements of the event, as reflected in the guard of honour, which was conducted with precision and in keeping with military tradition.
Mohd Shauari said the National Day celebration provided an opportunity for the current generation to appreciate the meaning of independence and remember the sacrifices of those who fought for the country's freedom from colonial rule.
Responding to negative comments on social media discouraging people from attending the National Day celebration, he said the occasion was an opportunity for Malaysians to set aside differences and come together in the spirit of patriotism.
He said the National Day celebration also provided an important platform to foster patriotism among Malaysians of all generations while reminding them to cherish the freedom and peace they enjoy today.
'We can sleep soundly at home, study and work in peace because of the struggles and sacrifices of those who came before us,' he said.
The 69th National Day celebration, themed 'Malaysia MADANI: Kesejahteraan Dinikmati', is scheduled to begin at 8 am tomorrow at Dataran Putrajaya, featuring 10,819 participants from 76 contingents and 22 marching bands.
