Seremban: Negeri Sembilan is in need of an additional 3,600 teachers and 450 classrooms to support the influx of 32,364 Year One students expected to enroll for the 2027 academic year. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun highlighted the necessity of these resources to ensure smooth learning sessions across the state.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the projected intake includes 16,018 six-year-olds and 16,346 seven-year-olds entering Year One. The Negeri Sembilan Education Department (JPNS) will assess the actual requirement for additional classrooms, considering the student capacity in each school. Urban areas such as Seremban, Nilai, Sendayan, and Port Dickson are likely to encounter challenges with student density and may need to continue the practice of two schooling sessions.
Aminuddin, who also serves as the Port Dickson Member of Parliament, emphasized the urgency of addressing student density issues through detailed studies and continuous improvements. He expressed hope that the Ministry of Education (MOE) would provide additional teachers to manage the anticipated higher student enrollment.
In related developments, the state government is reviewing an application by the Port Dickson District Land Office to convert approximately 400 hectares of mangrove land into a permanent forest reserve. This initiative aims to enhance green spaces, serving as vital habitats and food sources for marine life and bird species.
Additionally, during Ramadan, 2,500 female civil servants in the state will be permitted to leave work at 2 pm every Friday, while their male counterparts are expected to resume work post-Friday prayers.
Aminuddin also urged the Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) to implement safety measures to prevent incidents like the recent accident, where a road user fell into a construction-related sewage pit. On Monday, a tragic accident occurred when a 14-year-old boy died after falling into a 10-metre-deep sewer in Tamping, Negeri Sembilan.
