Kuala lumpur: The National Energy Council (MTN) meeting today discussed and approved the sustainable strategies outlined in the Natural Gas Roadmap (NGR), Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced. He emphasized that these measures aim to ensure the nation’s energy security, supporting socioeconomic growth and facilitating the transition to a low-carbon economy.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar highlighted the primary focus areas, which include increasing the share of renewable energy in the power generation mix to 35 percent by 2030, expanding open grid access, and boosting investments in green and new energy technologies. These initiatives align with the 13th Malaysia Plan, which seeks to develop a more innovative, competitive, and inclusive national energy system to ensure the well-being of the people and Malaysia’s sustainable future.
The meeting, chaired by Anwar, was MTN’s second of the year and pertained to the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) presented by the Economy Ministry. During the session, the council agreed on the electricity demand and supply projections for data centres, based on the latest assessment by the Energy Commission.
Additionally, Anwar announced the meeting’s approval for the development of an e-mobility service platform. This platform is intended to integrate and coordinate the operations of electric vehicle charging stations across the nation. Anwar, also serving as the Finance Minister, reiterated the MADANI government’s commitment to realizing the nation’s energy transition goals, aiming to position Malaysia as a leader in sustainable and resilient low-carbon economy.
