Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Press Institute (MPI), in collaboration with the Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM) and Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH), today organised a literacy programme on the TH Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to enhance media practitioners' understanding of the issue.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the programme, held at IKIM here, was attended by TH Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Mustakim Mohamad, MPI president Datuk Yong Soo Heong, and IKIM Director-General Associate Professor Datuk Dr Mohamed Azam Mohamed Adil, along with more than 20 media practitioners.

During the nearly two-hour closed-door session, Mustakim briefed the media on the TH RCI and answered questions regarding the issue and its coverage. Yong said the programme served as an important platform for journalists to obtain accurate information on the measures being undertaken by TH to restore and strengthen the confidence of depositors and investors.

"This is a highly meaningful collaboration between MPI and IKIM. We are grateful for the opportunity to invite journalists to gain in-depth information on an issue of great importance to the country," he told reporters after the programme. He noted that the special briefing also helped ensure that accurate information regarding TH's future is conveyed to the public, adding that similar programmes could be organised in other states through dialogue sessions or town halls.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Azam emphasized that the TH RCI issue should not be viewed as a controversy involving religion or race, but rather as an issue of management integrity and accountability. "This is a matter of trust, and we urge journalists to share this narrative to instil confidence among depositors and Malaysians as a whole," he said. He added that the literacy programme is important in restoring public confidence in TH's credibility as a unique Islamic financial institution entrusted with managing the fifth pillar of Islam.
