Kuala lumpur: The agenda to empower the country's film industry is among the main focuses of the Ministry of Communications through Budget 2027, said its Deputy Minister Teo Nie Ching. She mentioned that the specifics of the budget related to the Ministry of Communications could only be disclosed after an official meeting with the Ministry of Finance (MOF) scheduled for next week.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Teo revealed that some initial informal discussions had already been conducted with the MOF regarding the ministry's aspirations. "One of the things we have presented to the MOF... not in the form of an official meeting but there were a few discussions, where we hope that we can provide greater support to the film industry in Malaysia," she stated. Teo emphasized the importance of ensuring potential support for the local film industry before making any formal announcements.

Teo made these comments to reporters after inspecting the construction works of Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Kampung Baru Sengkang. When asked about the budgetary allocation requested for Budget 2027, Teo explained that the amount would depend on the government's financial capacity.

Furthermore, she underscored the ministry's priority to introduce effective policies aimed at supporting the growth of the industry ecosystem. "For us, it is how we can go through various policies to ensure that the industries, some of which are under the orange economy, can be maintained and also continue to contribute to our Gross Domestic Product (GDP)," she added.

During the inspection, Teo noted that the temple management had applied for an allocation under the Non-Muslim Houses of Worship (RIBI) scheme in 2024 and subsequently received an allocation of RM248,560 in 2025. As part of the visit, Teo, who serves as the Member of Parliament for Kulai, also distributed food baskets to 20 B40 families and needy groups in collaboration with the temple management.
