Kuala lumpur: The flood situation in Sabah worsened today, leading to the evacuation of more victims, while Sarawak activated its first relief centre (PPS) in Kuching.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, in Sabah, the State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat (JPBN) reported that the number of flood victims increased to 4,652 people as of 4 pm, up from 3,768 at noon. The victims, involving 1,799 families, are currently accommodated at 25 PPS across three affected districts: Pitas, Kota Marudu, and Paitan.
Pitas experienced a rise in the number of victims to 2,013 people (787 families), up from 1,653 people (621 families) earlier in the day. Paitan saw a significant increase in victims, reaching 716 (234 families) from just 192 recorded earlier. In Kota Marudu, the number of victims remained steady at 1,923 people, involving 778 families.
Meanwhile, in Sarawak, the state Disaster Management and Emergency Management Agency (JPBN) announced that a PPS was opened at the Darul Istiqlaal Mosque in Kampung Sungai Maong, Kuching, at 11 am today. A total of 63 victims from 17 families have been evacuated to the PPS, with numbers expected to rise.
Last Wednesday, the Malaysian Meteorological Department forecasted continued humid weather in Sabah and Sarawak throughout the week, with rain anticipated in several areas due to monsoon winds entering the country.
