Nilai: The Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) has agreed to propose that the National Velodrome in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan be renamed the Velodrom Azizulhasni, in appreciation of Datuk Azizulhasni Awang's contribution to the country's cycling sport. MNCF president Datuk Amarjit Singh Gill announced that the proposal was unanimously agreed upon by MNCF affiliate members at their Annual General Meeting.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the proposal will be brought to the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) for consideration since the velodrome is a government property. Amarjit emphasized that while the federation supports the name change, the final decision rests with KBS and could take one or two years due to logistical considerations. He also mentioned that if the name change is successful, the Azizulhasni Velodrome in Dungun Terengganu will be renamed to prevent confusion.
In addition to the renaming proposal, Amarjit highlighted issues concerning the Cheras Velodrome land. MNCF is demanding that the original agreement to build a new velodrome be honored by the land's current buyer. The land, initially sold by Jakel, has changed hands multiple times, complicating the situation. Amarjit expressed hope that the current developer will fulfill the promise of constructing a new velodrome in Kuala Lumpur.
Meanwhile, the MNCF committee election for the 2026-2030 term concluded with Norazman Abu Samah elected as the new deputy president, receiving 44 votes against Mohd Saiful Abdul Jalil's 21 votes. The vice president positions were secured by Muhammad Firdaus Dawod, M Rezal Abu Bakar, Firdaus Arshad, Mohd Zairi Badderul, and Irawan Sudarsono. Amarjit stated that he would carefully consider appointments for other key positions, emphasizing competence over political considerations.
