MMEA Seizes 245 Protected Animals In Batu Pahat

Batu pahat: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) seized 245 protected animals in a joint operation with the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) off the waters of Batu Pahat last night.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Batu Pahat maritime zone director, Cmdr (M) Mohammad Zaini Zainal stated that the seizure occurred at approximately 10.30 pm on a fish farming platform in Sungai Ayam, located 1.2 nautical miles southwest of Sungai Suloh. Among the seized animals were 234 oriental magpie robins, 10 pythons, and a monkey.

Cmdr Mohammad Zaini highlighted that the activities violated the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010. The rescued animals have been transported to the Batu Pahat Maritime Zone and will be handed over to Johor Perhilitan for investigation and further action.

He emphasized the agency's dedication to combating smuggling and wildlife trafficking, expressing a commitment to collaborate with enforcement agencies to protect the national biodiversity heritage.
