MGA Seeks Full-time National Coach To Boost SEA Games Preparations

Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Golf Association (MGA) is seeking assistance from the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) to create a permanent national coach position in a bid to strengthen the national team's preparations for the 2027 SEA Games, which Malaysia will host. According to BERNAMA News Agency, MGA president Tan Sri Mohd Anwar Mohd Nor highlighted this as a key issue during a recent meeting with KBS secretary-general Datuk Rahimi Ismail. Mohd Anwar emphasized the importance of appointing a permanent national coach to establish a more structured preparation programme for the national team. "We have sought help from KBS to find a golf coach of high calibre," he stated at a press conference during the launch of the 100PLUS MGA National Junior Development Programme (NJDP) Junior Series 2026 at The Mines Resort and Golf Club. He further mentioned that cooperation with KBS and the National Sports Council (NSC) is essential for MGA to implement various programmes and address crucial issues related to athle te development and preparation. Mohd Anwar expressed MGA's commitment to working with KBS on several proposals and collaborating with the NSC to enhance the development of golf in Malaysia. MGA has also planned several preparation programmes ahead of the biennial Games, scheduled for September 2027. This includes exploring the possibility of conducting training in Sarawak. Mohd Anwar recently met with Sarawak's Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, to discuss how Sarawak can assist in the preparations for the SEA Games.
