Merdeka Spirit Shines Through Tang Jie-Ee Wei’s Historic Win – Ahmad Zahid

Paris: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has congratulated national mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei on their victory at the BWF World Badminton Championships 2025 in France today. In a Facebook post, Ahmad Zahid stated that the 21-15, 21-14 win over China’s Jiang Zhen Bang-Wei Ya Xin was a meaningful gift for all Malaysians in conjunction with the 68th National Day celebration.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the triumph ended nearly two decades of waiting, as Malaysia’s previous best achievement in the mixed doubles event was a semi-final appearance by Koo Kien Keat-Wong Pei Tty in the 2006 edition in Madrid, Spain. Ahmad Zahid expressed that the victory was moving for Malaysians who watched the match live, with many admitting they shed tears when the final winning point was secured.

Ahmad Zahid emphasized the spirit of Merdeka, highlighting unity as a key factor in the victory. He also urged Malaysians to support the women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah, who are competing in the final.

Meanwhile, in a separate post, Ahmad Zahid congratulated national women’s pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah for winning the silver at the 2025 BMF World Badminton Championship after they lost to Chinese pair Liu Sheng Shu-Tan Ning in the final. He commended their achievement as the first Malaysian women’s pair to have entered the finals, acknowledging their hard work and fighting spirit.

Ahmad Zahid expressed pride in Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah and all the players who represented Malaysia, noting that their efforts inspire the next generation.
