Melaka: The Melaka government has instructed the Public Works Department (JKR) and the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) to take immediate action to address issues affecting the fishing community in Pasir Gembur, Tanjung Bidara. This directive comes in the wake of a site visit by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, aimed at inspecting the progress of a new fishermen's complex project and understanding the concerns of the local fishing community.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh emphasized that a meeting was convened with various government agencies, including the Alor Gajah Municipal Council, to assess the project's current status and coordinate follow-up actions for the benefit of the fishing community. Among the agreed measures is for DID to conduct a feasibility study on deepening the channel for fishing boats between Pasir Gembur and Batu Tenggek. Meanwhile, JKR has been tasked with preparing a more suitable site for the complex project to mitigate the risk of seawater intrusion and flooding during high tides.
The state government has also decreed that no additional private structures will be allowed within the coastal wave-breaker area. All existing and future structures must obtain a Temporary Occupation Licence (TOL) from the Land Administrator and receive approval from relevant technical departments.
Ab Rauf stressed the importance of the site visit, describing it as part of the state's commitment to promptly and effectively addressing community issues. He highlighted that his engagement with the residents and the fishing community was not merely routine but a strategic effort to ensure that concerns are addressed through appropriate and effective measures.
He underscored that "Melaka Sayang Rakyat" (Melaka Cares for the People) is a commitment demonstrated through concrete actions and practical solutions that directly benefit the people of Melaka.
