MCMC Investigates Compromised WhatsApp Accounts

Kuala Lumpur:According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is investigating complaints from the public concerning WhatsApp accounts that have been compromised, blocked, or made inaccessible. MCMC has reached out to Meta for clarification and to take appropriate measures.

The commission emphasized that compromised accounts and blocked accounts are separate issues. Accounts that fall into the hands of irresponsible parties can be exploited for fraudulent activities, spam, or violations of WhatsApp's terms, which can result in the account being blocked by the platform.

MCMC advises users to use official WhatsApp channels for account recovery or verification. The public is also reminded not to share verification codes or security PINs, to activate the 'Two-Step Verification' feature, and to avoid suspicious links or applications.

Furthermore, the commission warns against third parties offering account recovery services in exchange for money, personal information, or verification codes. If problems persist and cannot be resolved through official channels, users are encouraged to submit a complaint to MCMC for further action and referral to Meta.
