Maran Health Clinic Set for Upgrade to 24-Hour Emergency Facility

Maran: Maran Health Clinic (KK Maran) is set to undergo a significant transformation as it is upgraded from a Type Four Health Clinic to a Type Three facility, which will include 24-hour emergency services. This development is aimed at better serving the healthcare needs of the district's residents.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad announced that the upgraded clinic will feature six observation ward beds and an Emergency Birthing Centre (EBC). During a working visit to the clinic, he emphasized the importance of strengthening health clinics to serve as the backbone of the primary healthcare system. Dr Dzulkefly highlighted the clinic's role in providing essential healthcare services to the people of Maran, focusing on preventive, promotive, and predictive care.

In contrast, Dr Dzulkefly addressed the status of the proposed RM350 million Maran Hospital project, which will not proceed at this time. This decision follows an assessment of the current healthcare infrastructure and service utilization. He noted that Maran is already served by Jengka Hospital, which has a bed occupancy rate (BOR) of approximately 57 percent, while Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital in Temerloh has a BOR of 63 percent. The minister explained that the current utilization levels do not justify the construction of a new hospital. The district is currently supported by 35 rural clinics and 10 health clinics.
