Manufacturing Sector Sales Value Reaches RM1.97 Trillion in 2025, Growing 4.2%

Kuala lumpur: The sales value of Malaysia's manufacturing sector in 2025 reached RM1.97 trillion, marking a 4.2% increase from RM1.89 trillion in 2024, with December's year-on-year sales rising 6.4% to RM168.6 billion.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr. Mohd Uzir Mahidin highlighted that this growth was primarily driven by the electrical and electronics products sector, which saw a 12.6% rise in December 2025, up from 10.8% in November 2025.

The expansion was further bolstered by the food, beverages, and tobacco sub-sectors, alongside non-metallic mineral products, basic metal, and fabricated metal products, which increased by 10.4% and 5.3%, respectively, compared to their November 2025 figures of 7.7% and 3.4%. However, Mohd Uzir noted a slight month-on-month decline of 0.5% in sales value growth compared to RM169.4 billion recorded in November 2025.

Export-oriented industries, which accounted for 70.4% of total sales, improved by 6.8% in December 2025, compared to 4.6% in November 2025. Similarly, domestic-oriented industries saw an increase of 5.6% in December 2025, following a 4.6% rise the previous month.

Mohd Uzir also reported that the manufacturing sector employed 2.4 million persons in December 2025, reflecting a 1.1% increase from 0.8% in November 2025. The workforce in this sector grew by 0.1% on a month-to-month basis. Salaries and wages for the sector rose by 2.5% to RM9.1 billion in December 2025, compared to a 1.9% increase in November 2025.

In the fourth quarter of 2025, the manufacturing sector's sales value grew by 5.8% year-on-year to RM509.5 billion, up from RM500.1 billion in the third quarter. The number of employees improved by 1.1%, while salaries and wages saw a 2.3% increase during the same period.
